Simpel are simply the best!

We have a wheel! Complete with a full set of super strong spokes and a new rim with spoke holes drilled at the correct angle. Huge thanks to everyone at Simpel, and Marcus in particular, for making it happen. We know it wasn’t the easiest job to get hold of all the parts and we’re hugely grateful for your perseverance.

So tomorrow, we’re back on the road and heading to Brunnen before starting our climb up the pass on Saturday. After a whole week without cycling, I’m slightly concerned we’ll have forgotten how to do it! The weather in Zurich is beautiful this evening so fingers crossed it holds…

Zurich has been a fab place to be marooned for a week but our wallets will no doubt be grateful that we’re on the move again! We can’t thank our friends Kezia and Steve enough for letting us stay with them for so much longer than planned. And a huge thankyou to Yvonne and Francis (Kezia’s mum and brother) too for letting us gatecrash their holiday!

But it feels great to know we’ve got our wheels back, quite literally, and with them our freedom. Perhaps we’ll change our mind halfway up the pass and wish we were back in the city… we’ll let you know!

Phew! My admiration for cycle wheel builders was pretty high before this experience (though you obviously didn’t have the right one originally!), but how marvellous to have found Simpel who obviously know what they’re doing. Thank goodness this was discovered before you had a failure far from a knowledgeable wheel builder!
Give my love to Brunnen — I suppose bicycles have to go over the pass, I remember driving through a tunnel — Courage mes amis!

Wow that wheel looks beefy. Love the Rohloff, goo luck with the pass.

Looks good to me. Bikefix now charge £15 to change a spoke!

And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten.

    Hi John
Thank you for the compliment, great blog! It was a pleasure and a matter of course to help you.
We are happy to see you on the road again in the beautiful swiss alps.
Keep pedaling! Best regards, Simpel GmbH
