After re-stocking on calories in Brugge (mostly consisting of chocolate, pancakes, frites and beer…) we’re back on the road again. We had a very relaxing weekend staying in the Hotel Walwyck, taking boat trips on the canals and generally wandering around and eating a vast amount! It felt good to get back on the bike again this morning, which can only be a good sign!
More flat, smooth cycle paths made for a fairly easy day and we’re now in Beloeil, still in Belgium but on the French border. Though the riding was easy, we still covered over 100k again, so our legs were ready for a little lie down at the end of our journey. Our main stop today was a leisurely lunch in Kortrijk. We went for the budget stretching combo of picnic followed by coffee, and very nice it was too. Our afternoon cycle was a bit of a slog as the nice wide cycle lane petered out, and the most notable sight of the afternoon was a giant cement factory. Here at Beloeil there is a very welcoming chef du camping (who said very nice things about John’s French) and a pretty chateau with a lake. Sadly we have just missed the festival of giants!
